Vendor profile

OpenText DAM review: fit, pricing model and integrations

Short answer

OpenText sells OpenText Digital Asset Management, an enterprise DAM platform for organisations that need on-premises, private cloud or managed deployment and integration with SAP, Salesforce and Salsify. Forrester named OpenText a Leader in its Q1 2026 DAM Wave. The UK G-Cloud 15 list price is GBP 240 per standard user per year, on a 3-year term with a 50-user minimum.

Facts on this page are verified against vendor documentation and public sources, each linked. Scenario scores publish after the scripted demo round.

What OpenText Digital Asset Management is

OpenText Digital Asset Management is the DAM product of OpenText, a Canadian software group listed on NASDAQ and TSX. OpenText sells it inside its Experience Cloud family, and the product line traces back to the Artesia Technologies acquisition announced in August 2004.

OpenText sells two DAM products today, and buyers should know which one a proposal covers.

Fact: older material and URLs still use the former name OpenText Media Management. Recent releases carry the names DAM 25.2 (May 2025), CE 25.4 (December 2025) and CE 26.2 (May 2026). The rest of this profile covers OpenText Digital Asset Management.

Experience Aviator is the AI layer. OpenText does not state which Experience Aviator capabilities each tier includes, and the G-Cloud price list gives no Aviator price.

Where OpenText Digital Asset Management fits

OpenText Digital Asset Management fits the DAMSelection segment of enterprise content platforms: global organisations with many brands, regions, integrations and strict hosting needs.

DAMSelection assessment: OpenText Digital Asset Management suits a buyer with these conditions.

  • An enterprise running SAP Commerce, SAP S/4HANA or Salesforce Marketing Cloud that wants a DAM with documented connectors to those systems.
  • A regulated or public sector organisation that must keep the DAM on-premises or in a single-tenant private cloud.
  • A media, sports or manufacturing team with large video and 3D libraries that needs transcripts, spin sets and in-browser 3D previews.

DAMSelection assessment: another segment fits better for a marketing team of 20 to 100 users that wants a fast SaaS rollout and brand guidelines. Brand and marketing DAM vendors, or OpenText Core Digital Asset Management, then deserve a look. Compare options on the OpenText alternatives page, the OpenText vs Orange Logic comparison and the enterprise multi-brand shortlist.

How OpenText covers the core DAM jobs

OpenText Digital Asset Management documents capabilities across all four core DAM jobs, with the 2025 and 2026 releases focused on AI search and the user interface.

  • Ingest and renditions: the platform extracts XMP, IPTC and EXIF metadata, builds thumbnails, previews and proxies on the fly, and accelerates large file transfer. It previews 3D formats such as GLB, FBX and OBJ, plus 360-degree spin sets.
  • Metadata and search: hierarchical metadata, multi-term and colour filters, and saved searches that act as shared dynamic collections. Aviator Search adds natural language search, reverse image search and AI asset summaries, on Knowledge Discovery or Google Gemini since CE 25.4.
  • Workflow and rights: a workflow engine with scheduled jobs, watermarking and expiry actions, plus creative review with markup on images and video. Rights Cloud by FADEL, a partner add-on, manages agreements, talent and clearances.
  • Distribution and sharing: Digital Hub builds public or secure microsites, and Adaptive Media Delivery serves renditions by URL with Smart Compose cropping. Templates exist for Azure CDN and Amazon CloudFront.

Product content and PIM integration

OpenText Digital Asset Management documents a PIM Integration Framework, introduced in 2023, with integrations named for SAP, Stibo, Riversand and Salsify. The product overview describes bidirectional sync with Salsify PXM and preferred DAM status for SAP Commerce.

The product page also lists a Salesforce connector built by partner Acheron and an Adobe Experience Manager Sites connector by CyanGate. Ask which connectors OpenText maintains and which a partner maintains. Check depth levels in the PIM and DAM Fit Map and read the Salsify integration guide.

DAMSelection assessment: an SAP-centred organisation gains most from OpenText. A buyer whose PIM is Akeneo or inriver should ask for a reference customer on that PIM, since OpenText names neither in its integration material.

Hosting, security and contract checks

OpenText sells OpenText Digital Asset Management for off-cloud (on-premises), private cloud and managed service deployment, and the product FAQ also names SaaS and hybrid configurations. The UK G-Cloud 15 listing stores data in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and other unnamed locations.

OpenText Private Cloud runs single-tenant environments with data centres in Canada, the UK, Germany, France and Australia, per a July 2025 release. The G-Cloud listing states ISO/IEC 27001, accredited by Schellman on 23 June 2025, plus Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. The listing states no SOC 2 report.

The G-Cloud service description sets these terms, which deserve a check in any contract:

TermG-Cloud 15 standardUpgrade
Recovery time objective7 daysFaster recovery sold as an add-on
Term and minimum3 years, 50 usersConfirm per contract
Annual price increase7.5%Ask for a renewal cap
API accessAgreed with Professional Services, no sandboxConfirm per contract

Ask for the data centre location in writing, using the terms in the data residency glossary entry. Ask where Aviator processing runs when Google Gemini or Vertex AI Imagen is the engine.

What to test in a scripted demo

OpenText Digital Asset Management should prove its AI search, integrations and deployment claims on your own assets. Use the DAM demo script and run these tests.

  1. Load 500 of our assets, including 3D files and two long videos, and show extracted metadata, transcripts and in-browser 3D preview.
  2. Search the set with Aviator Search in natural language, then by reverse image, and show the AI asset summary for five results.
  3. Switch the Aviator engine between Knowledge Discovery and Google Gemini and show where each processes our data.
  4. Sync 50 product images with our Salsify or SAP Commerce sandbox and change one image in each direction.
  5. Build a Digital Hub portal for an agency, set an expiry workflow on a licensed image, and show the audit trail.
  6. Deliver one master image through Adaptive Media Delivery in three crops with Smart Compose.
  7. Show the upgrade path for CE releases on our chosen deployment model.

Pricing questions to ask

OpenText Digital Asset Management has a public list price through the UK G-Cloud 15 framework. That list gives GBP 240 per standard user per year and GBP 850 per 100 registered consumer users per year. A 3-year term applies, with a 50-user minimum, 10 TB storage, managed hosting and support included.

Worked example: 200 standard users at GBP 240 cost GBP 48,000 in year one. With the 7.5% annual increase, year three costs about GBP 55,470 and the 3-year total is about GBP 155,070. The list assumes 2,000 users, so a 200-user quote may differ. Model your own numbers in the TCO calculator.

  • The price of Experience Aviator, which the G-Cloud price list does not include.
  • The price per extra terabyte and per unit of extra data transfer.
  • Whether the 7.5% annual increase applies outside G-Cloud, and a cap for renewals.
  • The price of the faster recovery add-on.
  • Partner fees for Rights Cloud by FADEL, Acheron and CyanGate connectors.
