Salsify DAM integration: which DAM platforms connect best

Short answer

A Salsify DAM integration links approved files in a DAM to product records in Salsify, so retailers and marketplaces receive each product with the right images and documents. DAMSelection rates each pairing on four depth levels: 4 native connector, 3 partner connector, 2 documented API pattern and 1 custom build only. On 14 October 2026 DAMSelection sourced nine DAM vendors at level 3 or 4.

Facts on this page are verified against vendor documentation and public sources, each linked. Scenario scores publish after the scripted demo round.

What a Salsify DAM integration does

A Salsify DAM integration keeps the master file and its rights in the DAM, and keeps the decision about which product uses that file in Salsify.

Salsify is a product experience management platform that centralises product content and distributes it to commerce channels. The DAM owns the original file, its renditions, its descriptive metadata and its usage rights. Salsify owns product attributes, retailer requirements and the publication of product content to channels. The integration carries identifiers, links and a selected set of metadata between the two systems.

The split matters most for brands that syndicate to many retailers. Each retailer can demand its own image set, file format and naming rule. Without an integration, a content team downloads files from the DAM, uploads them to Salsify and repeats the work at every reshoot.

DAMSelection assessment: DAM and PIM form one product content supply chain, so buyers agree the shared data model before the first demo. The DAM vs PIM guide sets out the ownership split, and combined PIM and DAM selection covers running both selections at once.

How Salsify models digital assets

Salsify attaches digital assets to products through product properties, and every documented connector matches assets to products on a shared identifier such as a Product ID or SKU.

Facts from the connector documentation of three DAM vendors describe that model from the outside:

  • Fact: Brandfolder's Salsify integration asks for the Salsify property where assets should land, and the asset appears as the product's image once the Product ID matches.
  • Fact: Frontify matches assets from its libraries to Salsify products through a shared identifier such as a SKU, and assigns them to product fields.
  • Fact: Aprimo's connector links assets through a key-field match such as a Product ID, and delivers each approved asset as a secure public link.
  • Fact: one Salsify product record can hold several assets from Aprimo, such as different angles or file types.

Three design consequences follow from that model. First, the target property decides the role of an image, so the property list belongs in the data model. Second, the product identifier must exist in DAM metadata before any sync can run. Third, localised assets need a locale value: Brandfolder documents a multi-value Locale field for localised Salsify properties.

Salsify also appears in DAMSelection as a DAM vendor in the product content segment, with its own vendor profile. The Fit Map shows that cell as "Same platform", because no connector sits between a system and itself. Buyers who keep product images inside Salsify still need a master archive with rights data somewhere, and the profile covers that decision.

Which integration pattern fits Salsify

Salsify's property-based model favours the push pattern: the DAM sends an approved asset, or a link to it, into a Salsify product property when the asset meets a trigger.

PatternHow it worksFit with Salsify
DAM pushesThe DAM sends assets or links to Salsify when an asset is approved or tagged with a product IDStrong fit: every sourced connector with a documented data flow includes a DAM-to-Salsify flow
PIM references by IDSalsify stores a DAM asset ID or URL and resolves the file from the DAMPartial fit: Aprimo sends a public link, so the file stays in the DAM
Shared delivery layerBoth systems point to renditions on one delivery URL or image CDNDepends on the DAM: the URL must stay valid as long as Salsify publishes it

The push pattern fits because Salsify needs the asset on the product record before it syndicates to a channel. The trigger is usually an approval status or a filled identifier. Fact: Aprimo pushes assets that reach an Approved status or carry a valid SKU, and treats Aprimo as the source of truth. Fact: the Brandfolder sync starts when a user enters the Salsify Product ID in a Brandfolder custom field.

A second flow runs the other way for metadata. Fact: Brandfolder writes Salsify product fields back into Brandfolder custom fields, and Salsify stays the source of truth for those fields. Fact: the Bynder Marketplace apps from Gournay Consulting, Lettuce Commerce and The 543 Group all describe product data flowing from Salsify back into Bynder.

DAMSelection assessment: a link-based push keeps one master file, and it makes Salsify depend on the DAM's delivery URLs. Check that dependency in the DAM integrations guide before you choose between file copies and links.

What the integration must keep in sync

A Salsify DAM integration must keep five things aligned: renditions, metadata, the asset-to-product link, rights expiry and deletions.

ItemWhat must happenEvidence found in connector documentation
RenditionsThe channel-ready rendition reaches the right Salsify propertyThe 543 Group app syncs Bynder-generated derivatives, which can replace or supplement the primary asset
MetadataEach field has one owner and one directionBrandfolder reverts edits to synced fields, because Salsify owns them
Asset-to-product linkThe identifier matches exactly, and a renamed or replaced asset keeps its linkBrandfolder updates renamed or replaced assets in Salsify
Rights expiryAn expired asset leaves every channel on the expiry dateAprimo sends an unpublish command to Salsify when an asset expires
DeletionsA deleted DAM asset leaves Salsify, or a person decides what happensAprimo unpublishes on deletion; Brandfolder leaves the Salsify copy in place

Rights expiry and deletion behaviour differ most between connectors, so ask each vendor to show both on screen. The rights management guide explains why an expired image on a retailer page creates licence exposure. The metadata mapping guide covers field ownership and direction.

How to read the Salsify depth table

The Salsify depth table lists only DAM vendors with a sourced connector, and on 14 October 2026 it holds three vendors at level 4 and six at level 3.

LevelMeaningVendors found for Salsify
4Connector built and maintained by the DAM or PIM vendorAprimo, Brandfolder, Frontify
3Partner connector listed on a marketplace or partner page, or builder not statedBynder, Acquia DAM, Orange Logic, OpenText, Papirfly, Tenovos
2Documented API pattern or guide, no packaged connectorNone sourced
1Custom build only, with explicit evidenceNone sourced

Summary of the findings:

  • Fact: Aprimo lists its Salsify connector as Aprimo-supported and paid, and deployment needs initial configuration by Aprimo Professional Services.
  • Fact: the Smartsheet help centre lists the Brandfolder Salsify integration among Brandfolder premium features.
  • Fact: Frontify names itself as developer of its Salsify integration.
  • Fact: the Bynder Marketplace lists four partner-supported Salsify apps, from Gournay Consulting, Lettuce Commerce, The 543 Group and Sitation.
  • Fact: Acquia lists a Salsify integration developed by its partner Stacks, and Orange Logic lists one developed by Avyre.
  • Fact: Avyre also lists a partner connector on the Aprimo Marketplace, next to Aprimo's own connector.

The level records who builds and maintains the connector. A level 3 partner app can sync more fields than a level 4 connector, and a level 4 connector can carry an extra fee. Vendors without a cell show "Not verified": DAMSelection found no public listing, which says nothing about private or project-built integrations. The full grid sits in the PIM and DAM Fit Map, and the DAM integrations by platform index links the pages for the other PIM systems, such as Syndigo.

What to test in a Salsify DAM demo

A Salsify DAM demo proves the integration on your own products and assets, with Salsify and the DAM open side by side.

  1. Load 50 product images from your DAM export, each tagged with a real Salsify Product ID, and show them on the right Salsify properties.
  2. Replace one image with a new version and time how long Salsify takes to show it.
  3. Rename one asset in the DAM and confirm the Salsify link survives.
  4. Set a rights expiry date on one asset to tomorrow, then show what Salsify and the channel feed contain after that date.
  5. Delete one asset in the DAM and show the result in Salsify, including any manual step.
  6. Change a product attribute in Salsify and show it arrive on the DAM asset metadata.
  7. Sync a localised image for two locales and show each on the correct localised property.
  8. Show the error log for an asset with a missing or wrong Product ID, and who receives the alert.

Script these steps in the demo script and repeat them during integration testing before go-live.

Common failure points

Salsify DAM integrations fail most often on identifiers, field ownership and lifecycle events.

  • Product IDs typed by hand in the DAM, with spaces, leading zeros or old SKUs, so assets never match a product.
  • Two systems writing the same field, so values flip back and forth at every sync.
  • Expired images that stay live on retailer pages because the connector only handles new approvals.
  • Deleted DAM assets that remain in Salsify, with nobody assigned to clean up.
  • Public links that change when the DAM moves storage or renames a file, which breaks images in Salsify.
  • Sync schedules too slow for launch days, so new products go live without images.
  • A connector owned by a partner with no named support contact in the contract.

Frequently asked

Does Salsify have a native DAM connector?

Salsify connectors on the DAMSelection record come from DAM vendors and their partners. Aprimo, Brandfolder and Frontify build their own Salsify connectors, which DAMSelection scores at level 4. Bynder, Acquia DAM and Orange Logic rely on partner-built connectors at level 3. OpenText, Papirfly and Tenovos list Salsify connectors without naming the builder, which DAMSelection also scores at level 3. The Salsify technology partner directory also lists Aprimo and Bynder as partners.

Do I need a separate DAM if Salsify already stores images?

A separate DAM pays off when you hold rights data, source files and non-product assets such as campaign and brand material. Salsify holds product assets for syndication. A DAM keeps the master archive, approval workflow and usage rights. DAMSelection assessment: small catalogues with few licensed images can start in Salsify alone.

How long does a Salsify DAM integration take?

DAMSelection rule of thumb: a packaged connector with clean product IDs takes 4 to 8 weeks from configuration to go-live. Data cleanup of identifiers often takes longer than the connector setup. Aprimo states that its connector needs initial configuration by Aprimo Professional Services, so plan that work into the timeline.

What is the difference between a level 3 and a level 4 Salsify connector?

A level 4 connector is built and maintained by the DAM vendor or by Salsify. A level 3 connector comes from a partner and sits on a marketplace or partner page. Both can work well. The level tells you who answers the support call and who updates the connector when either API changes.

Which Salsify DAM integration handles rights expiry?

Aprimo documents that expirations and deletions in Aprimo send update or unpublish commands to Salsify. For other connectors, the public listings checked by DAMSelection do not describe expiry handling, so ask each vendor to show it live in the demo.
