Short answer
Sitecore Content Hub DAM, now marketed as SitecoreAI DAM, is the digital asset management product of Sitecore, in which EQT acquired a majority stake in 2016. Sitecore sells it standalone or inside the SitecoreAI platform as SaaS on Microsoft Azure. The DAM fits organisations that want assets, web content and campaigns on one vendor platform, provided they verify hosting region and PIM integration in writing.
Facts on this page are verified against vendor documentation and public sources, each linked. Scenario scores publish after the scripted demo round.
What Sitecore Content Hub is
Sitecore Content Hub DAM is the asset management capability of SitecoreAI, which Sitecore now markets as SitecoreAI DAM. The product page states that many customers know it by its earlier name, Sitecore Content Hub DAM. The product traces back to Stylelabs, whose Marketing Content Hub with DAM, MRM and PIM applications Sitecore agreed to acquire in October 2018.
Sitecore was founded in 2001. EQT VII acquired a majority stake in 2016, with the founders keeping a significant stake, and the EQT portfolio page still lists Sitecore. Sitecore launched the SitecoreAI platform in late 2025.
The product page lists these capability areas:
- AI that reads each asset, identifies its file type and applies metadata.
- Search by what is inside an image or video.
- One approved version of every asset, with history, audit trail and rollback.
- Usage rights and licence expiry tracking before an asset goes live.
- Resize, reformat, crop and localise for each channel, with approval before publishing.
Sitecore sells the DAM standalone or as part of the full SitecoreAI platform, next to Content Operations, CMS, Conversion Optimization, Audience and Insights, and Agentic Studio.
Where Sitecore Content Hub fits
Sitecore Content Hub sits in the DAMSelection segment of enterprise content platforms, the segment for global organisations with many brands, regions and integrations. DAMSelection agrees with that placement.
DAMSelection assessment: the DAM fits best under three conditions.
- The organisation runs, or plans to run, the Sitecore CMS, so approved assets flow straight into pages and personalisation.
- Marketing operations want AI tagging and visual search inside the same platform as content generation and briefs.
- The buyer wants one contract for DAM, web content and campaign work.
DAMSelection assessment: another option fits better when the web platform comes from a different vendor and nobody plans to change it. A product-content DAM fits better when PIM-linked product imagery dominates the workload. The Sitecore Content Hub alternatives page lists candidates for those cases.
| Buyer condition | DAMSelection assessment of fit |
|---|---|
| Sitecore CMS in place or planned | Strong candidate |
| DAM only, other web platform | Test standalone scope and price |
| AI cost predictability a priority | Confirm whether Sitecore Stream is licensed separately |
| PIM-led product content supply chain | Plan an API integration |
How Sitecore Content Hub covers the core DAM jobs
Sitecore Content Hub covers the four core DAM jobs in its documentation and product page, and buyers should confirm each in a scripted demo.
Ingest and renditions
Sitecore describes one home for images, video, documents and audio. Resize, reformat and crop produce channel-ready versions.
Metadata and search
Content Hub documentation describes AI metadata enrichment that adds image tags on upload, running on Azure OpenAI Service by default. A connector lets customers use their own or a third-party AI service. Visual search finds .jpg, .jpeg and .png images by content, a form of semantic search. The same documentation states that most AI capabilities require Sitecore Stream.
Workflow and rights
Approval workflows, access controls and brand guardrails govern use. Version control keeps one approved version with audit trail and rollback. Rights tracking flags where an asset may be used and when its licence expires.
Distribution and sharing
Approved assets move into SitecoreAI pages, campaigns and personalisation. Documented connectors cover Contentful, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Microsoft OneDrive and Sitecore DXP products.
Product content and PIM integration
Sitecore Content Hub documentation names no connector for Akeneo, Salsify, inriver or Stibo STEP. The documented product data link is a connector that copies product data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce into Content Hub. The product page cites open APIs and 57 or more pre-built integrations, without naming a PIM connector among them.
DAMSelection assessment: plan PIM integration as an API project. Ask who builds and maintains it, and which fields sync in each direction. The PIM and DAM Fit Map records verified integration depth per PIM.
Creative teams connect through Sitecore Connect for Creative Cloud, which supports Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Sitecore documents that this connector will be deprecated and does not support Adobe apps running natively on Apple Silicon, and recommends the Digital Apps Connector.
Hosting, security and contract checks
Sitecore Content Hub runs as SaaS, and the Sitecore DPA commits to store Customer Data only in the region the customer selects at onboarding. Data leaves that region only with customer consent, subject to the Gen AI Addendum. The DPA names Microsoft Azure among supported hosting options, and the region list was not published on the pages reviewed.
Sitecore stated ISO/IEC 27001, 27017 and 27018, CSA STAR, TISAX, PCI DSS v4.0 and IRAP programmes, plus HIPAA readiness, in April 2025. The release does not name Content Hub in scope. Sitecore announced in-country SitecoreAI instances for the UAE and Saudi Arabia in February 2026, without mentioning the DAM.
Request these items in writing:
- The list of Content Hub regions and the region for primary data and backups.
- Certificate scope that names Content Hub or SitecoreAI DAM.
- The Gen AI Addendum terms, where Azure OpenAI processing runs, and the sub-processor list.
- Whether Sitecore Stream is included or licensed separately.
- The export format for assets, metadata, versions and audit trail at exit.
The security review guide and the contract clauses guide give the wording.
What to test in a scripted demo
Sitecore Content Hub demos should prove the documented features on the buyer's own assets and roles. Use the scripted demo method and request these tests:
- Upload 200 of your images with AI metadata enrichment on, then count the tags you would keep unchanged.
- Run visual search for an object across your images, without manual tags.
- Set a licence expiry date on a stock image and show what happens on a live page after expiry.
- Open and check in an asset from InDesign through the connector Sitecore recommends today.
- Show the API call your PIM would use to fetch an approved rendition, and name the connector owner.
- Run the same flow on a standalone DAM licence, and show which steps need Sitecore Stream.
Pricing questions to ask
Sitecore Content Hub pricing is quote-based, and Sitecore publishes no prices or tiers for SitecoreAI DAM. The product page states that AI is included at platform level and is not charged separately by token or seat.
Ask these questions before comparing quotes:
- What is the licence basis for a standalone DAM: users, storage, assets or a platform fee.
- What storage and delivery bandwidth the quote includes, and the cost of each extra terabyte.
- Whether Sitecore Stream is part of the quote, since the documentation ties most AI features to it.
- Whether the AI inclusion holds for bulk tagging of a full migration, for example 500,000 assets.
- What uplift applies at renewal, and whether it is capped.
DAMSelection rule of thumb: storage, delivery and AI usage drive five-year DAM cost more than licence fees. Model them in the five-year TCO calculator, and compare peers on the AEM Assets vs Sitecore Content Hub page.
Strengths and watch-outs
DAMSelection assessment Drawn from vendor documentation and public sources verified on 2026-10-15. Demo evidence follows in the scripted demo round.
Strengths
- Sitecore states that AI in SitecoreAI DAM is included at platform level and is not charged separately by token or seat, which removes AI credit metering from the cost model. source
- Sitecore sells SitecoreAI DAM as a standalone DAM or as part of the full SitecoreAI platform, so buyers can start with the DAM and add CMS or personalisation later. source
- The Sitecore DPA commits to store Customer Data only in the region the customer selects at onboarding and not to move it out of that region without consent. source
Watch-outs
- Sitecore publishes no SitecoreAI DAM prices or tiers on its product page and offers only a demo request, so cost comparison requires a quote. source
- Sitecore now markets the product as SitecoreAI DAM and notes that many customers know it as Sitecore Content Hub DAM, so contracts, documentation and partner material can use either name. source
- Sitecore documents that its Creative Cloud connector for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign will be deprecated and does not support Adobe apps running natively on Apple Silicon. source
