Celum DAM review: fit, pricing model and integrations

What Celum is

Celum is a DAM platform that stores, enriches and distributes brand and product content, with modules for review, portals and product content around the core library.

CELUM GmbH lists these product areas on its homepage:

• High-End Digital Asset Management, the core asset library
• Content Collaboration for online proofing, review, approval and workflow
• Portals, which are tailored frontends for colleagues, partners and customers
• Content Templates and Product Content Studio
• CELUM AI, insights and analytics, and application integrations

CELUM describes itself as a bootstrapped company with nearly 150 employees, run from a headquarters and engineering centre in Linz. Mark S. Kaslatter became CEO in September 2026, and founder Michael Kraeftner stays as Chief Vision Officer. DAMSelection found no merger, acquisition or outside investor in CELUM's own pages or in industry directories. Fact: the imprint names CELUM GmbH, Firmenbuch FN 246117m, and does not list shareholders.

Where Celum fits

Celum sits in the DAMSelection European specialists segment of the DAM vendor directory, which serves buyers who weigh data residency, local support and industry depth. The five DAM segments explain how that segment differs from enterprise content platforms and brand DAM.

DAMSelection assessment: Celum fits best under these conditions.

• The organisation is based in the EU, Switzerland or the UK and wants EU-hosted SaaS by default.
• Product content matters: assets must link to products, and a PIM or ERP holds the product data.
• Several audiences need curated access through portals, such as dealers, retailers or agencies.
• The team will run a configuration project with a CELUM partner, since several connectors come from partners.

DAMSelection assessment: another segment fits better when the buyer needs a self-service brand portal live within weeks, published prices, or hosting in the US or Australia from day one. How Celum covers the core DAM jobs

Celum documents capabilities across all four core DAM jobs, with most detail on ingest, rights expiry and review.

Product Content Studio adds a product layer. Fact: CELUM states that teams define the content each product type needs, see completion status at a glance, and create asset slots before final content exists. CELUM also states that product data can stay in an ERP such as SAP S/4HANA while CELUM links it to product objects.

The documented pages do not describe rendition presets or the metadata field model in detail. Test both in the demo with your own metadata schema.

AI in Celum

Celum ships AI tagging today, with translation, face recognition and video analysis available through marketplace integrations.

• Fact: CELUM states that the CELUM Autotagger is available for its SaaS offering and tags single assets or whole folder structures in one click.
• Fact: the marketplace lists an AI Autotagging extension developed by comspace, plus Microsoft Azure Face Recognition, Translation and Video Analyzer, and a DeepL Autotranslator.
• Announced: a June 2026 partner recap of CELUM Summit 26 describes agents in CELUM WORKS as a preview. Treat agents as roadmap until release notes confirm availability.

CELUM does not publish where AI processing runs or how AI usage is billed. Ask both questions in writing.

Product content and PIM integration

Celum lists six PIM connectors on its marketplace, and partners built the three connectors DAMSelection opened.

Stibo Systems also lists its own CELUM asset picker and download add-on for STEP, rated level 4 in the Fit Map. DAMSelection assessment: partner-built connectors can work well, and the contract must name who maintains each one through PIM upgrades. Hosting, security and contract checks

Celum documents EU hosting on Microsoft Azure, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and standard identity controls.

• Hosting: Azure region in Amsterdam by default; Switzerland on request, evaluated case by case.
• Resilience: productive data zone-redundant across three EU availability zones, with a single-tenant hosting option.
• Identity: SAML, OpenID Connect, MFA and SCIM 2.0 provisioning.

Confirm these points in the contract, using the security review guide:

1. The hosting region and a commitment that data and backups stay there.
2. Backup frequency and the recovery point and recovery time objectives.
3. Where AI processing runs and which sub-processors handle it.
4. Whether a self-hosted install is available, as some marketplace listings mention on-premise use.

What to test in a scripted demo

A scripted Celum demo should test the partner connectors and product layer on your own data. Use the scripted demo method.

1. Sync 50 products from your PIM test instance and show the attributes written to CELUM assets.
2. Release a new image version in STIBO STEP, or your PIM, and show what the web shop sees before and after release.
3. Configure Product Content Studio for one product type and show the missing-content view.
4. Set a licence expiry on an image and show its state in a portal, a share link and the CDN.
5. Run the Autotagger on 200 of your own product images and measure keyword precision.
6. Create a partner portal for one dealer group with its own permissions.

Pricing questions to ask

CELUM publishes no prices, so every cost driver comes from the quote. Model the five-year cost in the TCO calculator.

1. Which licence units apply: users, portal users, storage or modules.
2. Which marketplace connectors carry a separate fee, and who invoices them: CELUM or the partner.
3. Whether Autotagger and Azure AI integrations bill per asset, per call or as a flat module.
4. The price of single-tenant hosting and Swiss hosting.
5. The cost of storage and CDN traffic above the included volume.

Worked example: a manufacturer with 3 PIM connectors from 3 partners may hold 4 contracts. Ask CELUM whether it can act as the single contracting party.
