5 Celum alternatives scored on fit

Short answer

Celum buyers usually compare five alternatives: Adobe AEM Assets, Fotoware, Keepeek, Wedia and WoodWing Assets. Four are European specialists like Celum, and Adobe AEM Assets is the enterprise option with published hosting in the US, Canada and Asia-Pacific. The search for an alternative starts when hosting outside the EU is needed now, because Celum describes US and Australian hosting as options that will be offered.

Facts on this page are verified against vendor documentation and public sources, each linked. Scenario scores publish after the scripted demo round.

Why buyers look for alternatives to Celum

Celum shows four documented triggers in its verified facts, covering pricing, connector maintenance, hosting outside the EU and AI availability. DAMSelection has logged no reference calls for Celum yet, so the table lists documented triggers only, each with its source.

Celum shows no ownership trigger: the about page describes a bootstrapped company, and the September 2026 change of CEO to Mark S. Kaslatter came with no ownership change. DAMSelection assessment: a trigger justifies a move only when it blocks a requirement or costs more over five years than the migration. The replatforming guide sets out that test.

Adobe AEM Assets: hosting outside Europe today

Adobe AEM Assets is the cloud-native DAM in Adobe Experience Cloud, sold by publicly listed Adobe Inc. in Prime and Ultimate tiers. Adobe lists hosting in the US, Canada, Europe (London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt), Australia, Japan and Singapore.

DAMSelection assessment: Adobe AEM Assets fits better than Celum in these conditions.

  • Teams outside Europe need local hosting now.
  • Designers work in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign through Adobe Asset Link, built by Adobe.
  • inriver is the PIM: the inriver-built AEM Assets Adapter sits at level 4 in the Fit Map, against level 3 for Celum.

Verify before shortlisting: DAMSelection found no AEM Assets app on the Akeneo App Store, while Celum holds a level 3 Akeneo app. Assets Prime excludes API-driven automation, and Adobe publishes no prices.

Fotoware: on-premises and provenance metadata

Fotoware is a Norwegian DAM vendor, majority owned by Viking Venture since 2020, that sells Fotoware Veloz and Fotoware Alto. Fotoware offers cloud, on-premises and hybrid deployment.

DAMSelection assessment: Fotoware fits better than Celum when policy requires on-premises or hybrid hosting, or when provenance metadata matters. Fotoware Veloz supports IPTC, XMP and C2PA metadata and lets users filter AI-generated images out of search. Fotoware Alto adds adaptive schemas per asset category and lifecycle rules that publish or revoke content.

Verify before shortlisting:

  • The Fotoware security page names no ISO/IEC 27001 or SOC 2 certification, while Celum states ISO/IEC 27001:2022.
  • Fotoware lists no packaged PIM connector, and Alto integrations usually need development resources.
  • Auto-tagging is billed as a separate feature.

The Fotoware and WoodWing Assets comparison covers two of the five side by side.

Keepeek: Akeneo app and French hosting

Keepeek is a Paris-based DAM vendor, part of Papirfly Group since May 2023, that runs on a French private cloud. Keepeek releases a new version to all SaaS customers every three weeks.

DAMSelection assessment: Keepeek fits better than Celum when Akeneo is the PIM and the connector should come from the DAM vendor. Keepeek publishes its own Akeneo app with two-way metadata sync, recorded at level 4 in the Fit Map. Keepeek also lists AGENA3000 for GS1 GDSN syndication and Centric Software PLM, which suit manufacturers sending product data to retailers.

Verify before shortlisting: the Akeneo app is labelled Beta on the Akeneo App Store, and Keepeek names no security certification for its own platform. The 2023 Papirfly acquisition is a recent ownership change. The Keepeek and Wedia comparison sets both French vendors side by side.

Wedia: TISAX, single tenancy and Stibo STEP

Wedia is a Paris-based DAM vendor, held by Cathay Capital Private Equity, its founder and management, and unlisted since November 2024. Wedia runs each customer on a single-tenant, container-based SaaS deployment hosted on AWS and Azure in the EU.

DAMSelection assessment: Wedia fits better than Celum in these conditions.

  • Automotive suppliers need TISAX: Wedia states ISO 27001 and TISAX certification.
  • Stibo STEP is the PIM: Wedia develops its own Stibo STEP connector, recorded at level 4 in the Fit Map.
  • Product teams work in Dassault Systemes 3DEXCITE or 3DEXPERIENCE, both listed in the Wedia directory.

Verify before shortlisting: Wedia does not publish certificate scope, now markets its DAM as Lyvio, and publishes no prices.

WoodWing Assets: publishing workflows and self-hosting

WoodWing Assets is the DAM of Dutch vendor WoodWing, majority owned by Main Capital Partners since 2020. WoodWing Assets runs in WoodWing Cloud or on the customer's own infrastructure.

DAMSelection assessment: WoodWing Assets fits better than Celum when editorial publishing drives the library. WoodWing Assets integrates natively with WoodWing Studio and Adobe InDesign, and offers branded portals per brand, region or partner, which suits a dealer portal. WoodWing Group holds ISO/IEC 27001 certification.

Verify before shortlisting: WoodWing lists no packaged PIM connector for WoodWing Assets, so PIM integration runs through WoodWing Connect, and the product has carried three names since 2012. AI alt text and AI search carry no availability status.

Before you switch from Celum

Celum customers confirm three things before a switch: the blocked requirement, the five-year cost gap and the migration effort. The vendor directory and the PIM and DAM Fit Map support the check. The DAM migration plan covers batching, validation and cutover, and the B2B manufacturers shortlist lists related candidates.

  1. Ask CELUM for a dated plan for US, Australian or Swiss hosting first; a written commitment may close the gap.
  2. Export 500 assets with metadata and the product links held in Product Content Studio, and check what survives.
  3. List the PIM connectors to rebuild: Akeneo, STIBO STEP, inRiver, Pimcore, novomind iPIM or xmedia.
  4. List every channel that uses CELUM CDN delivery URLs, since each URL needs a replacement.
  5. Model five-year cost in the TCO calculator, then run a scripted demo on your own assets.
