Hyland Nuxeo DAM review: fit, pricing model and integrations

What Hyland Nuxeo is

Hyland Nuxeo is a content services platform that stores, models and governs documents and media in one repository, with DAM features built in. Hyland acquired Nuxeo in a deal announced on 4 March 2021 and completed on 8 April 2021. Hyland is a Thoma Bravo portfolio company headquartered in Westlake, Ohio.

Hyland now positions Nuxeo inside its Hyland Content Innovation Cloud. Hyland's own pages use three names for one product: "Hyland Nuxeo" in headlines, "Nuxeo DAM" in support text and "Nuxeo Platform" in URLs and older collateral. This profile uses Hyland Nuxeo throughout.

The documented product scope covers four areas:

• Repository and content modelling: flexible metadata schemas, hierarchical metadata and a document-oriented REST API.
• Asset handling: compound, 3D, CAD and multifile assets, including GLB, FBX and OBJ, with bulk ingestion and petabyte-scale storage.
• Governance: rights, retention and audit controls, with a Retention addon supported on Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Platform.
• Search: Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, decoupled into a separate search service from LTS 2025.3.

Nuxeo ships as long-term support (LTS) releases with numbered hotfixes.

Where Hyland Nuxeo fits

Hyland Nuxeo sits in the DAMSelection segment for enterprise content platforms, and DAMSelection agrees with that placement. • The organisation stores engineering, 3D or compound assets next to marketing media and wants one repository with one metadata model.
• An internal or partner development team can configure the low-code platform and build integrations through the REST API.
• Records retention and audit trails matter as much as creative collaboration.

How Hyland Nuxeo covers the core DAM jobs

Hyland Nuxeo documents capabilities across all four core DAM jobs, with most depth in ingestion, metadata and governance.

Hyland documents two AI addons. The Nuxeo AI content intelligence addon generates descriptions, summaries and entity tags for images and documents, and requires Hyland Content Innovation Cloud credentials. Knowledge Enrichment for Nuxeo classifies documents and extracts entities from PDF, DOCX and JPEG files and stores the results as metadata. Product content and PIM integration

Hyland Nuxeo names PIM as an integration target and lists no packaged PIM connector. The Nuxeo DAM page describes an API-first architecture for PLM, PIM, ERP, CMS and engineering systems, built on a document-oriented REST API. A search of the Akeneo App Store found no Nuxeo listing, and the Fit Map records no Nuxeo connector for any of the seven PIMs it covers.

Hosting, security and contract checks

Hyland Nuxeo is available as Hyland-sold SaaS on AWS and as a self-managed deployment. The AWS Marketplace listing confirms SaaS delivery on AWS. Hyland's product page states that the free download is governed by an open-source licence.

Hyland's 2025 Hyland Cloud overview lists Nuxeo among four Hyland Cloud solutions. The same overview states SOC 2 and SOC 3 audits, ISO 27001 certification or a local equivalent, CSA STAR registration and in-region data storage. The overview names data centres in nine countries, including Germany, Ireland and England, without mapping Nuxeo to any of them. The Hyland Trust Center applies ISO 27001, SOC 2 and HITRUST to specific offerings and names no product.

Confirm these points in contract:

1. The current SOC 2 report and ISO 27001 certificate, and whether their scope names Nuxeo Cloud.
2. The AWS region that will hold your repository, backups and search index.
3. Where the Hyland Content Intelligence service processes images and documents when you enable the AI addon.
4. LTS upgrade terms: who applies hotfixes and how long each LTS line receives support.
5. Exit terms for content, metadata and audit history. The exit strategy guide lists the clauses.

What to test in a scripted demo

Hyland Nuxeo makes specific documented claims that a scripted demo can test on your own assets. Use the demo script method and ask for these six tests:

1. Upload one CAD file, one GLB model and one compound asset with linked parts. Show the previews, renditions and metadata each one receives.
2. Model your own metadata schema, including one hierarchical field, live in the low-code configuration tool. Time how long the change takes to reach the search filters.
3. Bulk ingest 500 of your assets with a metadata spreadsheet. Show the error report for rows that fail validation.
4. Run the Nuxeo AI content intelligence addon on 20 of your product images. Show where the descriptions and entity tags land and how an editor corrects them.
5. Push one approved asset and its rendition to your PIM through the REST API. Show the call, the payload and the update after a metadata change.
6. Place a Nuxeo asset in an InDesign document with the Adobe CC connector on your current Adobe version.

Pricing questions to ask

Hyland publishes no Nuxeo prices, and the AWS Marketplace listing issues a custom private offer per buyer. Ask these questions before the commercial round:

• Which metrics drive the quote: users, storage, repository size, environments or API calls.
• Whether the AI addons and the Content Intelligence service carry separate fees or consumption credits.
• Whether test and pre-production environments are included in the SaaS fee.
• What a self-managed licence includes in support, and what Hyland charges for enterprise support on the open-source platform.
• How storage growth and egress are priced over five years.
