Short answer
Dash is a cloud DAM from Brighton-based Dash for Brands Ltd, built for small and medium-sized brands that want a shared media library, Shopify product linking and brand portals. Dash includes unlimited users and every feature on every plan, with prices starting at £79, $109 or €99 a month. Dash fits teams that accept EU-only hosting and need no packaged PIM connector.
Facts on this page are verified against vendor documentation and public sources, each linked. Scenario scores publish after the scripted demo round.
What Dash is
Dash is a digital asset management product sold as cloud SaaS by Dash for Brands Ltd, registered in England and trading as Dash. Martin Wilson, co-founder of Asset Bank and Dash, introduced Dash in February 2022 as a DAM for SMEs and growing brands that were tired of searching shared drives.
Dash grew out of Bright, the company Martin Wilson and Eric Clack founded in 1999, which launched Asset Bank in 2005. In November 2021 Bright called Dash its newest DAM solution. The current operator, Dash for Brands Ltd, carries a recent company registration, and DAMSelection has not verified a parent company.
Dash sells one product with every feature on every plan. Plans differ by storage and monthly download allowance.
| Date | Change | What Dash did |
|---|---|---|
| February 2022 | Launch post | Introduced Dash for SMEs and growing brands |
| January 2023 | Pricing model | Moved to storage and download pricing with unlimited users |
| January 2026 | Pricing update | Added storage on every plan and a lower-cost entry plan |
| September 2026 | AI updates | Smart Tagging article; video AI search for new uploads |
Where Dash fits
Dash fits the DAMSelection segment of brand and marketing DAM: teams that need fast adoption, brand portals and guideline management. DAMSelection keeps Dash there because Dash positions itself for SMEs and growing brands, and its feature set centres on a shared library, sharing and creative tool connectors.
DAMSelection assessment: Dash suits a buyer with these conditions.
- A brand or marketing team of 5 to 50 people replacing shared drives, where per-seat pricing would block wide access.
- A Shopify brand that wants product and variant tags on images and a direct export to product listings.
- A UK or EU buyer that is content with assets hosted in AWS Ireland.
DAMSelection assessment: another segment fits better in three cases. A PIM owns the product record and needs a packaged DAM connector, data must stay in a named non-EU region, or approval workflows span many brands and regions. Compare options in the Air vs Dash comparison, the mid-market marketing team shortlist and the retail and e-commerce shortlist.
How Dash covers the core DAM jobs
Dash documents capabilities across all four core DAM jobs, with most of its recent investment in AI search and tagging.
- Ingest and renditions: Dash connects to Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Express, Canva, Figma, Microsoft Office and Corebook, and to Box, Dropbox and Google Drive for imports.
- Metadata and search: auto-tagging detects objects, text and location data on import. Text extraction covers images, Office documents, PDFs and video, and video transcription makes speech searchable.
- AI discovery: AI-enhanced search finds images and videos by content, and Similar images groups visually alike pictures. Video AI search covers videos uploaded from 30 September 2026.
- Distribution and sharing: Dash names branded portals and guest upload links as features on every plan, and exports assets to Shopify and WooCommerce.
Smart Tagging suggests values for fixed-value fields such as folders, tags and dropdowns. Dash trains the model daily on the customer's own account only. The Dash AI overview labels Smart Tagging beta, and the September 2026 help article says it runs on current usage-based plans.
Dash names no AI provider, processing region or model training terms in its AI documentation. Ask for these in writing before contract.
Product content and PIM integration
Dash connects product content through Shopify and offers no packaged PIM connector on its integrations page. The Shopify integration brings the primary store's products and variants into a Products field, so users tag assets by product, variant or SKU and export them to Shopify product listings.
The export goes to the primary store only. A second store inserts assets from Dash by browsing from inside Shopify. A PIM such as Akeneo or Salsify would connect through the custom REST API, Zapier or a partner build. The PIM and DAM Fit Map holds no Dash cell, which means no packaged connector was found.
DAMSelection assessment: a Shopify brand without a PIM gets a direct product link from Dash. A brand with a PIM should script the PIM link in the demo and budget the API work. The Shopify integration guide lists the checks.
Hosting, security and contract checks
Dash runs on AWS with live assets in the EU (Ireland) region and backups copied to a second EU region (Stockholm) on upload. Dash states it is unable to host in customer-requested regions, so EU hosting is the only option.
The Dash security overview states ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certification and documents these controls.
- Encryption at rest.
- Backups held in a second EU AWS region.
- Customer notification within 24 hours of an incident.
Confirm these points in contract:
- The current ISO/IEC 27001 certificate, its edition, scope and certifying body.
- The AI sub-processors and the region where AI search and tagging run.
- An uptime commitment, since the security overview states none.
- Deletion and export terms for live and backup data at cancellation.
The data residency glossary entry defines the terms to use.
What to test in a scripted demo
Dash's demo should prove the Shopify link, the AI features and the download-based pricing on your own assets. Use the DAM demo script and run these tests.
- Upload 300 of our product images and show auto-tagging and AI-enhanced search results against our own vocabulary.
- Turn on Smart Tagging for a Product field and show the acceptance rate on 50 new uploads.
- Tag 20 images to Shopify variants and export them to our test store's product listings.
- Upload a 5-minute video and show transcription and search on spoken words.
- Build a branded portal for one agency and a guest upload link for one photographer.
- Show the monthly download counter after 100 downloads through an integration and an embedded link.
- Export 500 assets with full metadata and show the file format.
Pricing questions to ask
Dash publishes usage-based prices, and the five-year cost turns on storage and monthly downloads. The Dash pricing page showed conflicting tier prices on 14 and 15 October 2026, with every GBP plan card at £79, so ask for a written quote. Model the result in the TCO calculator and read the DAM pricing guide.
| Item | What Dash publishes | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | £79, $109 or €99 a month | Storage and downloads included |
| Middle tiers | Small Team $239 and Growing Brand $389 a month, in US dollars | The GBP and EUR prices for both tiers |
| Top public tier | Established Brand from $589 (£449) a month | The price for storage above the tier allowance |
| Users | Unlimited on every plan | No seat charge for portal guests |
| Downloads | Counted through integrations and embedded links | The download count for your Shopify export volume |
| Overage | Allowance rises after a second month over | The notice before a tier change |
Worked example: a brand that exports 1,200 images a month to Shopify through the integration uses 1,200 downloads before any marketing use. Size the tier on integration traffic plus team downloads.
