Comparison

Air vs Dash: which DAM fits which team

Short answer

Air and Dash are brand and marketing DAM platforms that publish prices and include unlimited users on every plan. Air fits US-based creative teams that want AI image and video generation, with Starter at 25 US dollars per month billed annually. Dash fits EU-hosted teams that sell on Shopify, with plans from £79 a month and live assets in AWS EU (Ireland).

Facts on this page are verified against vendor documentation and public sources, each linked. Scenario scores publish after the scripted demo round.

Verdict

DAMSelection assessment: Air leads on AI generation and on import routes from other DAMs, and Dash leads on EU hosting and on an all-features-included plan structure. Both suit smaller teams, and neither holds Fit Map evidence for a PIM connector. See the Air profile, the Dash profile and the vendor directory.

Choose Air when:

  • Your creative team generates and edits images and video inside the DAM: Air Canvas offers more than 50 models, drawn from workspace credits.
  • You are leaving Bynder, Brandfolder, Canto, MediaValet, Orange Logic or WebDAM, which are among the 23 import sources Air lists.
  • Your security review asks for SOC 2 Type II, which Air states is independently audited.
  • Your stack uses Contentful, Sanity, n8n or an MCP server, all documented Air integrations.

Choose Dash when:

  • Your live assets must stay in the EU: Dash hosts them in AWS EU (Ireland) with backups in AWS EU (Stockholm).
  • Your products and variants live in Shopify and you want linked assets exported to the product listings.
  • You want every feature, AI included, on the entry plan, with a 14-day trial that needs no card.
  • Your security review accepts an ISO/IEC 27001 statement and a 24-hour incident notification commitment.

Where Air and Dash differ

Air and Dash differ in what the price meters, which features sit behind higher plans and which systems they connect. The template's facts table covers ownership, hosting and certifications, so this table adds the rest.

Product content and PIM integration

Air and Dash both lack Fit Map evidence for any PIM connector, and both list Shopify as the commerce link. Dash documents a deeper Shopify integration.

  • Dash brings the primary store's products and variants into Dash for tagging and exports linked assets directly to Shopify product listings.
  • Dash lists WooCommerce next to Shopify, plus a custom REST API and Zapier for other connections.
  • Air lists Shopify, WordPress, Sanity and LinkedIn as publishing and commerce connectors, and released a Contentful asset picker on 21 September 2026.
  • Air places Public API access on the Business plan, so a PIM link on Starter has no documented API route.

DAMSelection assessment: DAM and PIM form one product content supply chain. For a small brand where Shopify holds the product data, the Dash product and variant link covers much of that chain. A team with a PIM should plan an API build for either vendor. See the Shopify integration page and the PIM and DAM Fit Map.

Hosting and security differences

Dash documents its hosting provider, regions and backup site, and Air documents AWS storage without naming a region. EU buyers should ask Air for its storage region and transfer mechanism in writing.

Pricing model differences

Air and Dash both publish prices, with Air pricing a credit pool and Dash pricing storage and downloads. DAMSelection quotes each list exactly as recorded in its facts files.

Air prices, recorded on 14 October 2026 from an Air page updated on 27 August 2026:

  • Free (120 monthly credits).
  • Starter at 25 US dollars per month billed annually (600 credits).
  • Business at 900 US dollars per month billed annually (30,000 credits).
  • Enterprise on custom terms from 60,000 credits.
  • Extra Credit Packs cost 35 US dollars per month per 1,000 credits.

Dash prices, seen on 14 and 15 October 2026:

  • Dash plans start at £79, $109, €99, $149 AUD or $139 CAD per month.
  • The pricing FAQ gives Small Team at $239 and Growing Brand at $389 a month.

Worked example: a Starter team on Air that adds one Credit Pack pays 25 plus 35, or 60 US dollars a month. The Dash entry plan costs £948 a year billed monthly, or about £853 billed annually. DAMSelection assessment: storage, egress and AI credit consumption drive five-year DAM cost more than licence fees. Model both in the TCO calculator.

AI capabilities documented for each

Air documents generative AI that consumes credits, and Dash documents search and tagging AI included on its plans.

Air

  • Shipped: Canvas for AI image editing, image creation and image-to-video with more than 50 models; all plans get the same models.
  • Shipped: workspace agent for bulk tagging, renaming and board edits, released on 13 October 2026.
  • Shipped: Extend video in Canvas, which generates a next scene for an existing video, released on 29 September 2026.

Dash

  • Shipped: similar images, and auto-tagging of objects, text and embedded location data on import.
  • Shipped: text extraction from images, Office documents and PDFs, and video transcription.
  • Announced: Smart Tagging, labelled beta, which suggests field values from a model trained daily on the customer's own account.

DAMSelection facts record no named AI provider for either vendor. Read the AI in DAM guide before you score these features.

What to test to separate them in a scripted demo

An Air and Dash demo should test usage metering, Shopify linkage and AI on your own files. Use the DAM demo script and the retail and ecommerce shortlist.

  1. Upload one month of your typical assets and show the credits or storage consumed.
  2. Generate 10 image variants in Air Canvas and show the credit cost per variant.
  3. Sync 20 Shopify products with variants into Dash, link assets and export them to the listings.
  4. Embed 10 assets on a web page and show how Dash counts the downloads.
  5. Search 50 of your videos by spoken content and by visual content in each tool.
  6. Show the storage region, backup site and SSO setup in the admin console or contract.
