Acquia DAM fits Canto buyers who want AI search in the base subscription and plan limits on paper before negotiation. Acquia DAM is the cloud DAM from Acquia, built on the Widen platform that Acquia announced it would acquire in September 2021. Acquia DAM runs on AWS and is ISO 27001 certified.

• AI search must come without an add-on: AI Search, AI Tagging and an AI knowledge base sit in every tier.
• Finance wants limits before the quote: Workgroup covers 50 users and 1 TB, Mid-Market 500 users and 5 TB, Enterprise unlimited users and 10 TB.
• The team needs metadata generated in many languages, which Acquia documents for over 50 languages.

What to verify: Acquia quotes the add-ons Entries, Workflow, Templates, Portals+, Video Creator and Syndicate separately. The Akeneo connector comes from partner StrikeTru. Acquia hosts in the US by default and documents no Canadian or Australian region.

Brandfolder as a Canto alternative

Brandfolder fits Canto buyers who run Salsify or who publish assets to websites through CDN links. Brandfolder is a cloud DAM owned by Smartsheet, with asset storage on Google Cloud Storage in the US and Europe.

DAMSelection assessment: Brandfolder fits better than Canto when:

• Salsify is the PIM and the DAM vendor should own the connector: Brandfolder builds its own, rated level 4 in the Fit Map.
• Web teams need Smart CDN links that resize, pad and convert by URL parameter and stop serving once an asset expires or loses approval.
• Video teams need auto-tags, scene count detection and speech-to-text, which the Premium plan includes as Video AI.

What to verify: Brandfolder has changed owner twice since 2020, most recently in January 2025. The security article states no method for choosing the storage region. Brand Intelligence is a separate product with no published price.

Bynder as a Canto alternative

Bynder fits Canto buyers who need an EU-only hosting option and a wide set of security certifications. Bynder is a cloud DAM headquartered in Amsterdam, hosted on AWS. Forrester named Bynder a Leader in its Q1 2026 Wave for DAM systems.

DAMSelection assessment: Bynder fits better than Canto when:

• Procurement requires an EU-only option that keeps customer data inside the European Economic Area.
• Security review asks for ISO 27018 and ISO 22301 next to ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II.
• The PIM is inriver or Salsify, where the Bynder Marketplace lists several partner-built apps.

What to verify: Bynder publishes no prices and packages modules priced on users, storage and usage. The AI search features require a contract upgrade. See Bynder vs Canto.

Frontify as a Canto alternative

Frontify fits Canto buyers whose priority is brand guidelines and design tool integration. Frontify is a cloud DAM from Frontify AG in St. Gallen, Switzerland, hosted on AWS in Frankfurt or North Virginia.

DAMSelection assessment: Frontify fits better than Canto when:

• Designers need brand colours, fonts and assets in Adobe CC Libraries and Figma through integrations Frontify builds and includes free on all plans.
• Teams want an AI brand assistant trained on their guidelines, or an MCP server that connects AI tools to Frontify assets and guidelines.
• Procurement in an automotive supply chain asks for TISAX.

What to verify: Frontify bills on monthly active users and counts external partners who log in. The region choice is documented for enterprise customers only. The Akeneo integration, built with Activo, syncs one main image per product identifier.

MediaValet as a Canto alternative

MediaValet fits Canto buyers whose team size drives the quote. MediaValet is a cloud DAM from Vancouver on Microsoft Azure, owned by STG since April 2024.

DAMSelection assessment: MediaValet fits better than Canto when:

• Team growth drives cost: MediaValet pricing includes unlimited users, while Canto pricing scales with team size.
• Video teams need transcripts, on-screen text and scene detection through Audio Visual Intelligence.
• Data must stay in Canada or another Azure region the customer chooses.

What to verify: MediaValet names AI features, extra storage and migration as possible extra costs. The Akeneo connector lists StrikeTru as developer and is priced on quote.

Before you switch from Canto

Canto customers should move only when a blocked requirement, a five-year cost gap larger than migration cost, or roadmap risk justifies it (DAMSelection assessment). The replatforming guide sets out that test.

1. Write the blocked requirement as a scenario, for example visual search on your own product shots.
2. Model five years of cost for Canto and two alternatives in the TCO calculator, with AI add-ons priced as separate lines.
3. Run a scripted demo with each alternative on that scenario.
4. Map albums, custom fields, SKU links and rights fields before signing, using the migration plan.
5. Confirm where product images will live if Canto DAM for Products currently holds SKU links.
