Three earlier 2026 items set the baseline: the Forrester Wave, the Extensis Portfolio sale and DAM LA 2026 buyer research.
Analyst recognition
Forrester published The Forrester Wave: Digital Asset Management Systems, Q1 2026, and named Adobe, Aprimo, Bynder, OpenText and Orange Logic as Leaders.
Fact: Aprimo's release states that Aprimo received the highest Current Offering score, and Bynder announced its Leader placement on 19 February 2026. Leader vendors use the badge in their own content, so buyers will meet it in demos. DAMSelection assessment: a Wave placement describes Forrester's scenario, and your scripted scenarios decide your shortlist.
AI assistant connectors
Three tracked vendors shipped Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectors in 2026, and Adobe brought AEM asset search into ChatGPT.
- Acquia DAM, 6 August 2026: the July 2026 release added an MCP server, so AI assistants can search assets and fetch CDN embed URLs. An admin must enable it, and access is read-only within the permissions of the user who set up OAuth.
- Canto, 17 September 2026: Product Hub MCP gives AI assistants a live connection to product data and approved content.
- Bynder, 28 July 2026: the H1 release lists a new MCP Server among its launches.
- Adobe, 29 September 2026: the CX Enterprise Coworker plugin lets ChatGPT users search AEM assets in natural language and create Workfront projects. Adobe states that Workfront integrates with OpenAI's Agents API in October 2026.
DAMSelection assessment: an MCP connector is a new distribution channel for governed assets. Test it in demos with the same permission and rights checks as a brand portal.
Governance and agent features
Two vendors launched products that apply DAM governance outside the DAM library.
Aprimo, 22 September 2026: Content Portfolio Management is generally available. Mesh scans websites, file storage, partner portals and social accounts without migration. Librarian, Critic and Compliance agents check that content, and a risk dashboard ranks findings.
Orange Logic, 30 September 2026: Orange Builder, previewed in New York, builds brand sites and partner portals from a Figma file, brief or prompt. It uses approved Orange DAM assets, with early access for selected customers.
Product releases
Five further releases changed search, sharing and administration in tracked DAM products.
- Canto, 17 September 2026: an AI Bulk Update Assistant for catalogue and asset changes, and AI Portals with AI-assisted setup and a drag-and-drop editor.
- Adobe, 24 September 2026: AEM as a Cloud Service 2026.9.0 lists Content Hub AI Search, Smart Collections and custom sorting under Limited Availability. Dynamic Media adds a new video viewer, AI-generated captions and multi-caption and multi-audio tracks.
- Frontify, 2 September 2026: the August update adds an Agentic hub, a Frontify for Hootsuite integration and Chinese interface languages.
- Sitecore, 2 October 2026: a database network upgrade for Content Hub. Sitecore reports graph rebuilds up to 50% faster, varying by operation, environment and workload.
- Wedia, reported 12 October 2026: Lyvio release 2026.4 adds AI Search across languages and a Canva Content Picker rebuilt on the new Canva SDK with single sign-on.
End-of-life notices
Adobe's deadline for removing deprecated Java APIs from AEM as a Cloud Service passed on 28 September 2026.
Fact: Adobe states that environments still using the deprecated APIs no longer receive critical release updates. DAMSelection assessment: AEM Assets customers with custom code should confirm their Cloud Manager pipelines pass before release 2026.10.0, planned for 29 October 2026. The renewal playbook covers how to track such deadlines.
Company results and ownership
One vendor reported results and one tracked product changed owner in 2026.
Bynder, 28 July 2026: company-reported H1 2026 figures show customer expansion up 46% year on year and more than 1,400 customers using Bynder AI capabilities. Bynder reports that Agentic AI Platform subscriptions tripled quarter on quarter.
Extensis Portfolio, 9 March 2026, carried in as baseline: Axle AI acquired Extensis Portfolio. The product keeps the Portfolio brand under a new division, Portfolio DAM, LLC. The DAM Market Map records the new owner.
Buyer research and events
Two DAM conferences in 2026 described buyers who want AI agents and still struggle with metadata and governance.
DAM LA 2026, 19 March 2026, carried in as baseline: Real Story Group buyer research described a market "consolidating and fragmenting at the same time". Buyers reported cross-suite fatigue and a preference for modular systems.
DAM New York 2026, 1 to 2 October 2026: a DAM News review from 13 October reports that AI agents dominated the programme. Many sessions returned to metadata, rights and governance.
What buyers should test
The October 2026 news adds four checks to a DAM demo script, each a DAMSelection assessment.
- Ask each vendor to connect an AI assistant to a test library and show which assets it can see, by role.
- Ask how AI agent actions consume AI credits, and include that consumption in the five-year cost.
- Ask which AI features are generally available and which are in Limited Availability, beta or early access.
- Ask for the deprecation calendar for every API your integrations call.
The AI in DAM guide gives the full test set, and the Five-year DAM TCO Calculator models AI credit costs.
